The Country Scene Programme
Every Friday between 9pm and 10pm I present the Country Scene featuring contemporary and traditional country music. I build my programmes at home, producing a running order and then the corresponding CDs go into a programme box which I take into the studio with me so I play all my own CDs and albums. I like the programme to have a musical flow (the American wave idea is my template) with sequences of maybe two, three or four tracks together and try to play a lot of different styles, blending each track as seamlessly as possible. I find programme building fabulously enjoyable and creatively rewarding and spend a lot of time trying to get it right.
I don’t format the show at all but I do use the local country music events to inject familiarity. I sometimes have studio guests from the world of country music plus live acoustic guitar sets from local musicians. The music is as diverse and interesting as I can make it and features vintage to contemporary country music to blue grass to traditional with live acoustic sets and studio guests. You can also keep in touch with the local country music scene in my monthly West Country column in Britain’s number one country music publication, Cross Country.
The Dreamboat Programme
This is late night music for the discerning listener – the weekly brainteaser, the pre-recorded live session plus the featured artist of the week on Friday nights between 10pm and 11pm, immediately following my country programme. I put the programme together in the same way as my country programme using my own CDs and albums. I also like to feature local recording artists but try to blend it all into a programme that patients will enjoy late at night.
If you would like a mention on the programme or details of tracks I’m playing you can phone me live in the studio between 9pm and 11pm on Fridays on (01392) 402020. If you want to contact me further my email address is dougparish@hotmail.com. Hope you’ll keep me company on this Friday night on the Country Scene and the Dreamboat for some of the best music.
